Lesson 42 of 170 · Level 2 of 6All lessons
In this lesson

You are learning equality: you will read the scene it happens in, learn 10 words and phrases, take apart the pattern behind them (expressing equality in comparisons), hear them in a conversation, rehearse them, and finish by saying one thing out loud to be graded.

The scene

Sushi vs. sashimi — are they equally good? A debate at a neighborhood sushi counter where the chef weighs in on whether the rice matters as much as the fish.

Sushi and Sashimi

The question comes up at every sushi counter: what's the difference between sushi and sashimi? Sashimi is pure — just fish, sliced. Sushi adds rice. The rice changes everything: temperature, texture, balance.

At a neighborhood counter in Koenji, the chef explained. Fish and rice are equally important. One without the other is incomplete.

The stranger asked. The chef thought carefully. They're different. Sushi is about balance.

Both were fresh. But the texture was different — tuna melts, salmon has bite.

Flavor was close. Texture made the difference.
