I Quartieri — Rome's Neighborhoods

Lesson 23 of 170 · Level 1 of 6All lessons
In this lesson

You are learning rome's neighborhoods: you will read the scene it happens in, learn 10 words and phrases, take apart the pattern behind them (describing places with essere + adjective chains), hear them in a conversation, rehearse them, and finish by saying one thing out loud to be graded.

The scene

Each Roman neighborhood has its own food identity, its own hour, its own personality. Knowing the quartieri is knowing how to navigate the city culturally, not just geographically.

Prima a Trastevere — troppo vivace, difficile dormire. Poi a Testaccio — il quartiere del cibo, dell'autenticità. Adesso abita a Pigneto — alternativo, economico, gastronomicamente sorprendente.

Quando gli chiedono il suo quartiere preferito, risponde sempre: « Quello dove sto adesso. » A Roma, questa è sempre la risposta giusta.
