L'Autobus e il Tram — Roman Transit

Lesson 21 of 170 · Level 1 of 6All lessons
In this lesson

You are learning roman transit: you will read the scene it happens in, learn 10 words and phrases, take apart the pattern behind them (imperative mood — giving and following transit directions), hear them in a conversation, rehearse them, and finish by saying one thing out loud to be graded.

The scene

Rome has no metro that covers the historic center — the archaeology prevents it. The city runs on buses, trams, and walking. You need transit vocabulary and the imperative to navigate.

Il Tram 8 per Trastevere

Il tram 8 collega il centro di Roma a Trastevere in dodici minuti. Parte da Largo Argentina, passa per il Viale Trastevere, termina a Monteverde. È il modo più rapido e più bello per attraversare il centro senza il traffico romano.

Lo straniero è alla fermata di Largo Argentina. C'è un anziano signore con la borsa della spesa. « Scusi, questo tram va a Trastevere? » L'anziano annuisce energicamente. « Sì, sì! Scendi a Piazza Sonnino. Cinque minuti. »

Sale. Convalida il biglietto. Cinque fermate dopo: « Devo scendere qui? » — « Sì, qui! Trastevere! » L'anziano lo indica con il bastone verso le luci di Via della Lungaretta.

Trastevere di notte. L'odore di fritto e vino. La città funziona. Lo straniero comincia a capire il ritmo.
