The scene

Coordinating a Saturday dim sum brunch in Shanghai — timing, venue, who's coming, what to order. The grammar of weekends, applied to the city's finest morning tea tradition.

周六早茶 — Saturday Dim Sum

Friday night. The group chat lights up. Wei types: 「这个周末约去喝早茶吧!」 Mei replies instantly: 「好!去哪家?」 Xiao Lin sends a Dianping link: 南翔馒头店 — the original, inside Yu Garden, established 1900.

「周六上午九点半见?要早点去,不然排队排到外面。」 The stranger asks: 「九点半来得及吗?我住得比较远。」 Wei reassures him: 「来得及!坐地铁十号线到豫园站,很近。」

Saturday morning. They arrive at 9:20. The queue is already thirty deep. But Mei has a secret: 「二楼不用排队,贵一点,但值得。」 The second floor — no queue, slightly pricier, but worth it.

They sit. The first bamboo steamer opens. Steam rises. 「先吃蟹粉小笼,再来虾仁烧卖。」 The weekend has officially begun.
