Lesson 26 of 150 · Level 2 of 6All lessons
In this lesson

You are learning regular preterite: you will read the scene it happens in, learn 10 words and phrases, take apart the pattern behind them (regular preterite: -ar, -er, -ir endings), hear them in a conversation, rehearse them, and finish by saying one thing out loud to be graded.

The scene

Café Gijón, Paseo de Recoletos, Madrid. 9am. The literary café where Hemingway once sat. You sit at a marble table and describe what you ate yesterday.

The traveller sits at a corner table and opens the menu. A waiter in a white jacket approaches. « Ayer desayuné aquí por primera vez », the traveller tells a friend on the phone. »

The friend asks what it was like. « Probé la tortilla española también. La comí entera. Estaba increíble. » A pause. »

The waiter returns. The traveller looks up and smiles. Today calls for a repeat performance. « Lo mismo que ayer, por favor. »
