You are learning transport in hanoi: you will read the scene it happens in, take apart the pattern behind them (transport vocabulary), hear them in a conversation, rehearse them, and finish by saying one thing out loud to be graded.
Hanoi has four million motorbikes and no usable subway (the Cat Linh–Ha Dong line is rarely used). The city moves by xe ôm (motorbike taxi), Grab (app-based), xe buýt (bus), and walking. Three phrases navigate all of them.
The stranger needs to get from the Old Quarter to Tây Hồ — West Lake, the expat district, 4km north. A xe ôm driver is waiting outside his guesthouse, as xe ôm drivers always are.
「Đưa tôi đến Tây Hồ, bao nhiêu tiền?」 The driver thinks. 「Năm mươi nghìn.」 50,000 VND. The stranger knows the correct price is 40,000. 「Đắt quá! Bốn mươi nghìn được không?」
The driver agrees. He hands the stranger a helmet. 「Mũ bảo hiểm.」 The stranger puts it on. They weave through traffic — motorbikes flowing like water around obstacles.
Twenty minutes. West Lake appears: silver in the afternoon light, surrounded by temples and French villas. 「Đến rồi! Cảm ơn anh lái xe!」
The driver nods. A small, complete transaction. The stranger tips 10,000 extra. The driver's face changes — a genuine smile.
