You are learning introducing yourself: you will read the scene it happens in, take apart the pattern behind them (introduction + vietnamese pronouns), hear them in a conversation, rehearse them, and finish by saying one thing out loud to be graded.
At a cooking class, guesthouse, or street food stall where the owner asks where you're from. Vietnamese introductions are warm and curious. One humble response makes everything.
The cooking class is in a traditional Old Quarter house. Seven participants from five countries. The teacher, Lan, has professional warmth that makes everyone feel immediately at home.
She goes around the room. 「Bạn tên là gì? Bạn đến từ đâu?」
「Tôi tên là [tên]. Tôi đến từ Mỹ. Rất vui được gặp bạn!」 Lan beams. 「Tiếng Việt của bạn tốt lắm!」
He shakes his head. 「Không dám! Tôi mới học thôi.」 (I wouldn't dare — I've just started.) She laughs. A true Vietnamese response.
End of class. Someone produces beer. 「Một, hai, ba, dzo!」 he shouts with full commitment. Everyone applauds.
