Lesson 15 of 170 · Level 1 of 6All lessons
In this lesson

You are learning the full market shop: you will read the scene it happens in, take apart the pattern behind them (shopping sequence + regular-status vocabulary), hear them in a conversation, rehearse them, and finish by saying one thing out loud to be graded.

The scene

Sunday morning. The full shop: herbs, fruit, fresh protein, condiments. Becoming a regular (quen hàng). The sequence phrase. 150 words — Hanoi's markets are yours.

Chủ Nhật Đi Chợ — Sunday Market ~150 words · Unit 3 finale

Sunday 7am. The stranger now has a route: Hàng Bè first for herbs (the woman who always gives him an extra bunch of rau mùi), then the protein aisle for tofu and eggs (the young man who has started greeting him by name), then the fruit at the south entrance.

「Trước tiên mua rau, rồi mua đậu phụ, cuối cùng mua hoa quả.」 He says this in Vietnamese and is briefly delighted.

At each stall they recognize him now. 「Lại đến rồi!」 (You're back!) Market belonging — which is deeper than tourist belonging.

An hour later, bag full. 「Mua xong rồi!」 The herb vendor waves. 「Tuần sau gặp lại nhé!」

「Chắc chắn! Hà Nội quá đẹp! Tôi yêu Hà Nội!」
