Lesson 24 of 170 · Level 1 of 6All lessons
In this lesson

You are learning social nyc: you will read the scene it happens in, take apart the pattern behind them (social digital phrases), hear them in a conversation, rehearse them, and finish by saying one thing out loud to be graded.

The scene

New York social life: exchanging Instagram, texting, the "let me know when you're in town again" culture, and the city's specific warmth with people who are passing through and fall a little bit in love with it.

Smorgasburg — The End of the Visit

The stranger's last Saturday in New York. He's at Smorgasburg again — not because he planned to, but because it's Saturday morning and he's in Brooklyn and this is where Saturday mornings go. He sees Marcus at the far end, talking to someone at a dumpling stall.

They eat together one last time. The kimchi smash burger, then mochi ice cream, then a long conversation on a bench facing the Manhattan skyline.

"Can I get your Instagram?" the stranger asks. They exchange. Marcus follows immediately. "It was so great meeting you," the stranger says. "Really. I mean it."

"Text me when you're back in town. You're always welcome here."

The stranger looks at the skyline one more time. "What a city," he says. "I'm going to miss this place."
