You are learning final assessment: you will read the scene it happens in, learn 10 words and phrases, take apart the pattern behind them (integrated review: all b2 structures), hear them in a conversation, rehearse them, and finish by saying one thing out loud to be graded.

The scene

A multi-stop food tour: starting at Grand Central Oyster Bar, ending at a rooftop in Brooklyn

The Last Meal

It had been twenty-five lessons. Twenty-five restaurants. A hundred dishes, a thousand new words, and one city that had become my classroom. Today was the last day, and I had planned a food tour that would bring everything full circle.

We started at the Grand Central Oyster Bar — a cathedral of tile and marble beneath one of the busiest train stations in the world. I had been wanting to come here since my first week in New York. I ordered a dozen oysters and a glass of Muscadet. The oysters were briny and cold, tasting of the Atlantic. By the time I had finished the last one, I had made a decision: this city had changed me.

We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge as the sun was setting. The skyline was golden. I thought about everything I had learned: how to tell a story, how to argue a point, how to read a room, how to write about what I taste, how to switch registers between a French bistro and a pizza counter.

On a rooftop in DUMBO, we ordered cocktails with a panoramic view of Manhattan. My friend raised her glass. 'To everything you've learned,' she said. 'And everything you'll learn next.' I smiled. The city hummed below us. The lights came on. I took a sip and savored it — the drink, the view, the moment, the language. It was bittersweet. But mostly sweet.

'It was this city that taught me,' I said. 'Not just the English. The courage to speak.' She nodded. 'That's the real fluency,' she said. 'Not the words. The willingness to use them.'
