You are learning availability question: you will read the scene it happens in, take apart the pattern behind them (do you have / availability questions), hear them in a conversation, rehearse them, and finish by saying one thing out loud to be graded.
Veselka, 2nd Avenue and 9th Street — a Ukrainian-American diner open since 1954. 24 hours, 7 days, 365 days. A New York institution where the menu spans borscht to pancakes to pierogies.
Veselka never closes. At 2am on a Tuesday it serves the same menu it does at noon on a Sunday: Ukrainian borscht, pierogies, blintzes, pancakes, burgers, and coffee. The clientele at 2am includes: NYU students finishing papers, line cooks from nearby restaurants having their post-shift meal, insomniacs, and occasional tourists who found it on a list of "must-eat NYC".
The stranger is not a tourist — he no longer feels like one. He sits at the counter. A server appears. "Hey, what can I get you?"
"Hi! What do you recommend?"
She doesn't hesitate: "The borscht. And the pierogies — potato and cheese."
"Do you have vegetarian options?"
"Everything I just said is vegetarian."
"I'll have both, please. That sounds amazing." She writes nothing — she remembers everything. "Coffee?" "Please."
