Speaking practice

Every lesson ends with you talking

The gap between recognising a sentence and producing one is the whole difficulty, and it is the part a reading course never touches. So the last two stages of every lesson here are spoken: one private, one graded.

Stage 5 · Rehearse

Nobody is listening

Prompts you answer out loud with nothing recorded and nothing scored. This is where you find out which of the ten phrases you actually have, and it costs nothing to be wrong.

Stage 6 · Perform

One thing, graded

You say one thing, it is recorded, and it is marked against a rubric written for that lesson — not against a native speaker, against what this lesson taught you.

Start speaking

Your first one is in lesson one of French — three words at a counter in Paris, and then you say them.
